I've been reading Gone With the Windsors while on holiday in Italy and found it riveting, very funny and very clever indeed. So much historical research has gone into it. The crossover between history and fiction is achieved seamlessly. I'm tempted to google Maybell Brumby - but I know she's the fictitious part (bet Maybell doesn't know though). By the end of the book I just loved Maybell, so hapless and generous especially alongside the monstrous but convincing Wally. Of the men, Lightfoot was the most likeable - and the only one to go and fight the fascists. I also googled Philip Sassoon and was interested to find he was a cousin of Siegfried. Trent Park is just up the road from my home. I now plan to read all the other Laurie Graham works and to recommend them to my customers (at Ottakar's).

Have just finished "Gone with the Windsors" and loved it. I have enjoyed all your books I've managed to find after reading " Perfect Homemakers" as an introduction. Still looking for the one about meringues! Thank you

I read Future Homemakers a couple of years ago and since then have been telling all my friends to do themselves a favour by getting to know Peg, Kath, Lois and the rest of the crew.
At present I'm reading The Unfortunates (silently) and Future Homemakers (aloud) to my wife when she (the night owl) comes to bed before midnight. She's enjoying it so much that on even on some very late nights she wakes me and insists on hearing two or three chapters.
